What is ADHD?
Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a common neurodevelopmental condition that affects how the brain manages focus, organization, emotions, and impulse control. ADHD often begins in childhood and continues into adulthood, ADHD is not a lack of effort or motivation, but rather a difference in how the brain is wired, particularly in areas responsible for executive functioning, such as planning, attention, and time management.
Individuals with ADHD may experience challenges with concentration, restlessness, impulsivity, forgetfulness, and emotional regulation, which can impact school, work, relationships, and self-esteem. At the same time, many people with ADHD are creative, energetic, and capable of thriving with the right support. In therapy, ADHD is understood with compassion and without judgment, focusing on helping clients build practical strategies, strengthen self awareness, and work with their unique brain, rather than against it.
