Career Counselling & Psychometric Assessments

Reclaim Direction, Purpose, and Energy in Your Professional Life

When work feels like an endless cycle of exhaustion, misalignment, or frustration, it is rarely a sign that you lack drive. More often, it indicates a deep disconnect between your intrinsic wiring: your core interests, personality, and interpersonal needs, and your daily work environment.

At True Balance Psychotherapy, we combine evidence-based career counselling with scientifically validated psychometric assessments. We replace vague advice and trial-and-error with data-driven clarity, helping you build a sustainable career path aligned with who you truly are.

Who We Help

Career counselling is not just for those starting out. It is for anyone navigating professional inflection points, friction, or transition. We frequently work with individuals facing:

  • Career Burnout & Chronic Fatigue: Feeling drained by workplace dynamics that clash with your natural energy and values.
  • Crossroads & Career Transitions: Deciding whether to pivot industries, seek advancement, or step into a new role.
  • Workplace Communication Friction: Untangling recurring miscommunication or conflict with team members, leadership, or clients.
  • Lack of Purpose or Engagement: Struggling to identify what types of work, environments, or roles will feel meaningful.
  • Leadership & Role Alignment: Understanding your natural leadership style and how to manage your team or energy effectively.

Our Approach: Psychometrics Meets Psychotherapy

A standard career quiz might tell you what job titles exist, but it won’t help you untangle the emotional blocks, imposter syndrome, or burnout holding you back.

At True Balance Psychotherapy, assessment is step one; meaningful integration is step two. We use psychometrics to map out your baseline and therapy to help you navigate decisions, overcome barriers, and execute a grounded strategy.

Our Assessment Suite

We utilize global gold-standard instruments to bring data, structure, and language to your career journey.

1. Strong Interest Inventory® (SII)

  • Focus: Career Direction & Occupational Fit
  • What it does: Think of the SII as a navigational compass for your career. It compares your specific likes and dislikes with thousands of professionals who report high job satisfaction across hundreds of industries.
  • The Insight: Rather than suggesting generic job titles, it uses empirical data to highlight the specific fields, work environments, and daily activities where you are most likely to feel energized, fulfilled, and engaged.

2. Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®)

  • Focus: Personality Wiring & Work Style
  • What it does: The MBTI explores your natural cognitive preferences, specifically how you recharge your energy, process information, make decisions, and interact with the world around you.
  • The Insight: You gain a practical toolkit to tackle workplace stress, clear up communication mix-ups, and structure your workday to prevent burnout.

The Power of Pairing SII & MBTI:

While each assessment offers immense individual value, combining them yields a complete picture. The Strong Interest Inventory identifies what work fields align with your interests, while the MBTI clarifies how you prefer to work, communicate, and manage energy. Together, they map out the exact environments where you can thrive.

3. Fundamental Interpersonal Relations Orientation-Behavior™ (FIRO-B®)

  • Focus: Interpersonal Dynamics & Communication Style
  • What it does: The FIRO-B measures how your personal interpersonal needs drive your daily behavior across three key areas: Inclusion (belonging), Control (influence), and Affection (warmth). It reveals the subtle balance between the behaviors you express toward others and what you expect in return.
  • The Insight: This tool acts as a shortcut for untangling chronic conflict at work or in personal relationships by exposing hidden behavioral gaps and “unspoken rules.” You will learn why certain dynamics drain you and how to adjust your communication style to get your needs met.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Costs & Pricing

Career counselling sessions are billed per session type: the Initial Intake Session (50 minutes) is $275, and the Debrief & Interpretation Session (80 minutes), where we review your complete assessment results together, is $300. All psychometric assessment material fees, scoring, and report generation are included in these session rates when completed as part of your active care; there are no separate software charges or hidden fees.

No. Unlike many practices that bill separately for digital testing keys and online portal access, our assessment materials are completely covered within your Initial Intake Session and Debrief & Interpretation Session fees. You pay the standard rate for each session type on the day of your scheduled appointment.

2. Insurance & Benefits Coverage

In most cases, yes: provided your session is conducted by a Registered Psychotherapist, Registered Social Worker, or Registered Psychologist (depending on your provider’s specific credential requirements). Because career counselling at True Balance Psychotherapy is delivered as part of psychotherapy or counselling services, it generally falls under mental health coverage.

3. Time Commitments & Process

The total number of sessions depends on your goals:

  • Targeted Assessment & Feedback (2–3 Sessions): Ideal if you simply want data-backed insights, report interpretation, and immediate clarity on your profile.
  • Comprehensive Career Counselling (5–8+ Sessions): Recommended if you are navigating burnout, executing a major career pivot, addressing workplace interpersonal friction, or needing active support with decision-making and transition strategies.

Your Initial Intake Session runs 50 minutes. Your Debrief & Interpretation Session, where we walk through your complete assessment results (such as the combined SII/MBTI report), runs 80 minutes to allow adequate time for deep-dive exploration.

4. Assessment Delivery & Completion

All assessments are completed online from the comfort of your home:

  • Once confirmed, your therapist sends secure portal access links directly to your email.
  • You can complete the questionnaires on any device (computer, tablet, or smartphone).
  • Once submitted, your answers are automatically processed and sent directly to your therapist to prepare your personalized report.
  • Strong Interest Inventory (SII): ~30–45 minutes
  • Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI): ~20–30 minutes
  • FIRO-B: ~15–20 minutes
  • Prepare/Enrich (Couples): ~30–45 minutes per partner

No preparation is necessary. Psychometric assessments are not tests. There are no right or wrong answers, and they are not timed. The most accurate results come from answering spontaneously based on your natural preferences rather than how you feel you “should” answer or how you act at work under pressure.

To ensure you receive safe, clinically sound, and actionable insights, we do not distribute assessment reports without a dedicated feedback session. Psychometric profiles are rich in data, and reviewing them alongside a trained practitioner ensures results are interpreted accurately within the context of your life and goals.
